Bills, Cowboys had interest in Gaither

The Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills both expressed an interest in Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Jared Gaither leading up to the NFL Draft.

However, neither team was so interested as to propose a trade to the Ravens for Gaither, a top left tackle.

It’s rare that left tackles are available and so many teams always have a need for them, making Gaither very enticing.

The Ravens were said to be asking for a second round draft pick but might have accepted a third round choice.

The only way to pry Gaither away from the Ravens now probably is to trade them a player, preferably a solid cornerback.

Ravens trade out of first round

The Baltimore Ravens got an offer they couldn’t refuse for the No. 25 overall pick and elected to trade out of the first round.

By trading out of the first round, the Ravens received the Denver Broncos second, third and fourth round selections.

With Denver’s second round pick, the Ravens selected linebacker Sergio Kindle, who was supposed to go in the middle of the first round.

There are some injury and character concerns with Kindle, but he helps the team get younger on defense.

The Ravens believe he can also add a pass rushing element that they desperately needed on the defensive side.

Ravens release Rolle

The Baltimore Ravens have announced the release of veteran cornerback and former Pro Bowler Samari Rolle.

The Ravens re-signed Rolle last season but he never made it back to the field following neck surgery.

Rolle has had his share of health problems in recent years, from the bulky neck to being diagnosed with epilepsy.

The case of epilepsy caused Rolle to stop driving and it took doctors awhile to figure out the proper medication to keep him healthy.

The cornerback had several solid seasons with the Ravens after coming over from the Tennessee Titans with wideout Derrick Mason.

Ravens looking at Graham

The Baltimore Ravens appear to have their sights set on free agent place kicker Shayne Graham.

Graham became a free agent after the end of this past season and the Cincinnati Bengals elected not to re-sign him.

The Ravens are planning on bringing back Billy Cundiff, but they would like to have another kicking tryout during training camp.

Last year’s training camp battle did not turn out well, as Steve Hauschka won the job and then was cut by midseason.

Graham has been a very effective kicker in his career but missed two critical field goals this past postseason.

Gaither reports to voluntary workouts

After getting ripped in the media by head coach John Harbaugh, Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Jared Gaither has reported to training camp.

Harbaugh scolded Gaither for not being with the team to workout after his agent said he was keeping the tackle in shape.

The head coach made it clear that Gaither’s work ethic is questionable at best but that he wants to see him succeed.

The lineman suffered through ankle and neck injuries last year but still managed to have a decent season.

There has been talks of a trade of Gaither to help restock the Ravens draft picks, but nothing appears imminent.
